Drake Likens Fake Friends to Bitcoin’s Fluctuations: ‘Struggling Now, Thriving Later’

Drake’s latest track, “What Did I Miss,” features lyrics about betrayal, luxury, and bitcoin. The rapper compares fickle friends to the cryptocurrency’s rollercoaster price movements, saying he looked at it “like a BTC”: “Could be down this week, then I’m up next week.”

This isn’t the first time bitcoin has been in Drake’s spotlight. In recent years, the Canadian superstar has become a prominent figure in the celebrity crypto community.

The rapper shared a clip featuring a prominent bitcoin advocate on his Instagram account, which had over 146 million followers at the time, where the advocate claimed bitcoin would “eat” gold.

He has also lost more than $1 million in bitcoin on bets for the Dallas Mavericks and Edmonton Oilers, along with other high-stakes wagers on UFC fights and Formula One races.

Drake’s betting history has led to memes dubbing it the “Drake Curse,” highlighting losses for the teams and athletes he wagers on. The rapper addressed this phenomenon, telling fans he’s just a “flawed sports bettor.”

However, Drake isn’t merely gambling. He has partnered with a crypto gambling platform, with reports suggesting the deal could be worth $100 million annually.

Beyond the casino scene, Drake has invested in crypto firms, including a notable startup in the crypto payments space, and has showcased hardware wallets on his social media.

Intriguingly, Drake’s reference to bitcoin’s volatility comes at a time seen as the calm before potential turbulence, as a key bitcoin volatility index has dropped to a near two-year low.
